Men’s Club Rules & Regulations

Welcome to the 2011 Men’s Club tournament play at the Tradition Golf Club in Wallingford. We look forward to another successful Men’s Club Season.

Published on this web site is a schedule of events as well as formats for this season. Please keep in mind dates and formats are subject to change based upon weather and participation. Please review this section so that you understand how tournaments will be run and what is expected.

At sign up time for each tournament you will know:

Tournament Format
Handicap used
Whether it’s a pick your own partner/team or an assigned partner/team event
The following will be supplied On Tournament day:

Scorecards with handicaps and stroke holes noted.
Tournament Rules
The weekly sign up sheet will state what % handicap is being used, though most tournaments will be played according to U.S.G.A recommendations.
Local Rules
All Tournaments are governed by the Rules of Golf as defined by the USGA with the exception of any Local Club Rules.

General Tournament Rules:

Tournament Sign up

Sign up sheets are posted three (3) weeks in advance in the Men’s locker room.
You must sign up by Wednesday 5 P.M. prior to the event in which you wish to play in.
Please Note: If you do not sign up by 5 P.M. Wednesday evening, you will be placed on an alternate list. This list will be first come first serve. We cannot guarantee that you will get into the field.
You are responsible for your name being on a sign-up sheet. You may sign up only yourself for individual events or you and your partner for team events.
You can also use the sign up link or call the Golf Professional yourself, at (203) 269-6023 ext. 302.
If you do not have a USGA handicap you must play scratch at any individual event. For team events, it is up to the discretion of the Handicap Committee to determine your handicap.
ANY CANCELLATION MUST BE CALLED INTO The Golf Professional at (203) 269- 6023 ext. 302, as soon as possible.
Cancellations

You must notify the Pro by phone call, voice mail or email no later then 6:00 AM, the day of the tournament.
If a player fails to call and cancel, he will not be allowed to play in the next event.
Tee Box Used

Handicap of 17 and lower play from the Blue Tees
Handicap of 18 and higher play from the White Tees
Players age 70 and up and with a handicap of 20 and higher can play from the front of the white tee box regardless of where the white tees are actually located on holes # 2, 4, 11, 12, 14, 16 & 17. These players will only be given 1 shot on any par three. All other holes will be played from the white tees.
Tee Times

Men’s Club tee times are reserved for member’s taking part in the tournament or wing ding
The number of tee times reserved will be based on the number of members signed up for the event.
Depending on the size of the tournament, tee times could start as early as 6:30 AM.
Men’s Club members not signed up for the tournament will have to make their own tee times through the Pro Shop.
Tee Times will be posted on the Web Site by 5:00 PM Thursday for that week end’s tournaments.

Team Pairings

  • Tournaments will be designated as either: Pre-assigned by the tournament software, “Pick Your Partner” or “Pick Your Team”
  • Men’s Club members who make up their own teams will not be considered part of the tournament, or be eligible for prizes, unless it is a “pick your own team/partner” tournament.
  • Tournament pairings and tee times will be posted on the Web Site by 5:00 PM Thursday for that week end’s tournaments
  • Every attempt will be made to balance teams by handicap or flights
  • For Tournaments designated as “pick your own team/partner”, you pick your partner and sign up as a 2 or 4 person team depending on the event
  • If it is a 2 player team event, the other 2 players in your foursome will be determined by the tournament software.
  • If you do not have a full team, every attempt will be made to assign someone to complete the team.

Speed of Play

All players and teams are expected to play in 4 hrs. and 10 min. No exceptions.
A 2 stroke penalty will be incurred by all members of a group who do not finish in the allotted time.
In match play events players/teams will be timed and any player not staying within the time limits will be assessed a loss of hole.
Any group playing behind a penalized group will be expected to finish in the same time as the group ahead of them.

Scorecards

All scorecards for both Tournaments and Wing Dings must be turned in at the end of the tournament
The Handicap Committee will adjust and post all scores for tournaments and Wing Dings.
You CANNOT take an “X” on a hole. Here’s how to score it correctly.
If a tournament is spread out over multiple weeks (e.g. The Classic or Club Championship), the handicap on the most current card will be used, therefore it’s possible for your handicap to change over the duration of the tournament.
Equitable Stroke Control

Please enter your actual gross score for tournament purposes but then adjust your scorecard for handicap posting purposes as follows:

Prizes for Both formal tournaments and Wing Dings

All scorecards must be turned in to be eligible for winning a prize
Winners are not official until the Handicap Committee has verified and posted the scores
Prizes will not be credited to your account until your score has been posted
Official Tournament/Wing Ding results and prizes will be posted on the Web Site by Monday at noon
Most tournaments will have a prize for low gross and low net. There may also be net prizes for 2nd and 3rd depending on the prize money available.

Matching Cards

USGA Rule (9-5.b.ii) will be used for matching cards as follows:

All ties will be broken by using the U.S.G.A method for breaking ties.

This process consists of comparing the last nine holes, six holes, three holes, one hole depending on how close the match of cards is.

If the low gross team/player also has the low net score, the gross score will always prevail.

Posting Scores

All 18-hole scores, including those on other golf courses, must be submitted as soon as possible.
Information needed on the scorecard: date, score, tee played, slope, course rating and signature. Please leave the scorecard in the box in the men’s locker room after it is posted.
Members are required to post ALL scores from ALL 18 hole rounds played. Failure to do may result in action by the Handicap Committee.

Important Note:

You must play in at least 5 tournaments during the season to be eligible for the Club Championship.

Sign Up

You must sign up weekly for that week’s tournament. The cut-off for each week is on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m.
You may sign up on the tournament sheet in the Pro Shop or via online sign up.
Sign up closes to allow Tournament Chairperson to a) determine how many tee times to reserve and b) to set up teams, if required.
Once closed, additional requests will be kept on an alternate list and allowed to enter to the extent that participants cancel. Once sign up is closed requests must be called in to the Tournament Chairwoman.
Tee Times

Tee times will be posted on this web site on the Tournament Tee Time page and in the locker room by the Thursday prior to the tournament date.
Each person is responsible for checking her tee time and arriving 30 minutes prior to that time
Please call the Tournament Chairwoman at least 24 hours before the tournament if you must cancel for any reason. This will allow ample time to notify an alternate
Handicaps

Each member is required to post their own scores each week. If you have any questions or problems, please contact Nick or the Tournament Chairwoman.
The handicap used will be from the most current card issued and not from the computer handicap.
We will be following USGA guidelines for maximum handicaps to be used. The USGA maximum index is 40.4, which equates to a 41 at Traditions. The maximum handicap for any given player in a tournament is 41.
Team Pairings

The Tournament Chairperson will assign all teams and pairings, unless the tournament allows you to pick your own partner.
Every attempt will be made to alternate the pairings, so that everyone gets to play with different people as well as their friends.
Speed of Play

All players and teams are expected to play in 4 hrs. and 15 min.

Scorecards

Two players, (generally one from each cart), in a group should keep score for everyone.
After completing your round, scorecards must be checked and compared. Once signed and attested, scorecard must be submitted to a member/s of the tournament committee.
Scorecards should have each player’s full name clearly marked on the card and must include the players local number.
Total number of strokes should be entered on the card and any holes that need to be adjusted for the USGA Equitable Stroke Control based on your handicap should be noted.
The handicap on the most current card will be used for all tournaments.
Equitable Stroke Control (ESC)

Please enter your actual gross score for tournament purposes but then adjust your scorecard for handicap posting purposes as follows:

Prizes

Prizes will be credited to your pro shop account monthly.
Results of each tournament will be posted on the Tournament Results page, in the Pro Shop weekly and then submitted to the newspapers.
Most tournaments will have prizes for several places, which will be determined by the golf committee.

Local Rules

Power Poles, Guy Wires and Power Line Rules

If your ball strikes any of the power poles, guy wires or power lines, YOU MUST replay the shot with no penalty incurred.
If your ball comes to rest within 15 yards of a power pole or guy wire AND the pole/wire is within your line of sight, you may take relief with no penalty. The intent of this rule is prevent playing from on un-safe position.
Roads

The curbing or edge of road defines the Out of Bounds for ALL roads surrounding and within the golf course.
Drainage “Ditches”

Fairways where drainage ditches are visibly sunk are to be treated as Ground Under Repair. Take relief, no closer to the hole.
Roped Off Areas

Any roped off area is to be considered Ground Under Repair. Take relief, no closer to the hole.
